Commissioning a ring with a rather beautiful Alexandrite

A bespoke ring with a rare Alexandrite

What a privilege it is to be able to work with such beautiful stones.  I can't even describe how gorgeous this Alexandrite is. It has all my favourite colours in one stone - you can see greens, blues, reds and purples depending on how the light hits it.

Alexandrites are mysteriously compelling gemstones with ever changing hues that make them extremely unique and more than just a passing trend. They are an exceptionally rare variety of gemstones from the Chrysoberyl mineral family and are named after the Russian ruler Czar Alexander II.  According to the GIA  “Fine alexandrite is green to bluish green in daylight and red to purplish red in incandescent light.” Well, this one was just as fine as they come!

When my client, M, called me to ask me if I was interested in working with an Alexandrite she had bought, I jumped at the chance. She said it was one of those "late night lockdown purchases'', as I'm sure we're all very familiar with. During those dark winter nights of lockdown to buy a small stone and keep it until the UK was ready to open up must have been like holding on to hope for better times to come. It gave her time to imagine it made up, decide on a pinky ring in platinum and to research which jewellers she wanted to work with. I felt so honoured when she chose me!

I sourced other stones that I thought would compliment the Alexandrite: Tanzanite to bring out the purples, Aquamarine to enhance the blues, Peridot and Green Tourmaline to heighten the greens, and we chose to make it in platinum to match her other rings.

I was delighted to be given the chance to work my signature organic style into this ring.  I take inspiration in nature, particularly the wonders of the underwater world and I love how this ring brought out the natural beauty hidden in this rare stone.

Personalised, bespoke jewellery is the best way to express your style and individuality. I would be happy to talk with you about your ideas, the materials and gemstones we could use.  The beauty of having something made with me is that every piece is created my Wimbledon workshop with some help from the best craftsmen in Hatton Garden, London. This gives me the ability to make sure your jewellery is 100% British made.

Seeing a bespoke jewellery commission come to life is an exciting process. The end result sometimes even takes us by surprise, the outcome being even more amazing than even we could imagine.
