Behind the jewellery...
Hi! In case we haven’t met yet,
I’m Militza, the designer and maker of Militza Ortiz Jewellery. I thought what better way to start the blog, then to tell the story of how and why I fell in love with jewellery.
Full of optimism I started University in my native Venezuela, way back in the 80s, I did a degree in Business, followed by a Masters in International Marketing at Strathclyde University. For over 13 years I threw myself into working with big multi-national companies in marketing, but my heart was never there. I had always wanted to do something creative, and after many life changing events I knew it was right to venture into this field. I knew I wanted to be proud of making something that would be treasured for its fine craftsmanship, and timeless unique style.
I started my training in Houston, Texas at the Fleury Gallery, then undertook short courses at Central St. Martins in London and I continue to study under the mentorship of the Master Jeweller Alexandra Huerga at The Central School of Jewellery in Hatton Garden, London. I instantly fell in love with the creative processes of bringing a design to life, in a mini piece of wearable artwork - beautiful jewellery that would be cherished and kept.
Most days you will find me working away in my home studio in Wimbledon, London, but I also spend a few days a week in Hatton Garden, home of the best craftsmen in London.
