Remodelling a family heirloom

How an inherited pair of earrings became 3 different pairs for 3 family members

“The earrings were handed down to me by my aunt as a wedding present. The first and only time I have worn them was on my wedding day - they’re just not me”. It's always the “they’re just not me” that I hear from clients.  And I get it, you leave in the safe for years out of respect and love to whom gave it you and when you feel the time is right you start looking at that family heirloom with different eyes.

More than 20 years had passed since P's aunt gave her the earrings. P now has a teenage daughter of her own, as well as a sister was turning 50 this year. So why not remodel the earrings and divide them between the three of them? A pair of studs for each inheritor.

I proceeded to divide the diamonds into 3 pairs of studs and keep the lines of the original design. Diamond studs are perfect for everyday wear, you never need to take them off. P got to keep a pair, another pair made the ideal 50th birthday gift for her sister and the third pair is being kept for daughter.

Her aunt’s love was big enough for all three of them.  And her earrings stayed in this family of strong women.
